We enjoy catering to guests who are interested in Sea Kayaking. You can depart and return from our Tidal Waterfront and Dock. If you need Kayaking supplies or an additional Kayak, Bay Point Sport here in town can fill your needs.
Here are four of the many possible Sea Kayak Trips you may choose to paddle.1) From the cottages, heading North to Macmahan Island. You paddle up the Little Sheepscot River along the West side of Macmahan Island. At the North end of the Island head East through Goose Rock Pass. At the East end of the island head South, back down the Sheepscot River to Gott's Cove, to the cottages. There is a considerable amount of tide in the Little Sheepscot during the last couple of hours of the outgoing tide, so you may want to reverse your trips if you would be going through the Little Sheepscot at the above mentioned time. Approx. 4 1/2 hours. 2) From the cottages, out to Gott's Cove paddle North through Five Islands Harbor. Continuing North for one mile you will come to Wood Island. Wood Island is at the mouth of Harmon's Harbor. The harbor is one mile long with many Lobster Boats, Sail Boats, and lots of our typically picturesque Maine Coastline. This trip to Harmon's Harbor and back to the cottages is also approx. 4 1/2 miles. 3) This next trip requires a "Pick-Up Vehicle". Launch your Kayaks at the public landing at the head of Robin Hood Cove. Paddling North about three miles you will come to the North end of Georgetown Island. Here you may choose to paddle across Robin Hood Marina and admire all the beautiful sailboats. At the North end paddle East through Goose Rock Passage, about one mile to the Little Sheepscot River. Here change your heading to South down the Little Sheepscot to Gott's Cove, then on to the cottages. This trip is approx. 6 miles. 4) From the cottages, out of Gott's Cove, paddle South through the Five Island Harbor. Continue South past Harmon's Harbor along the Davis Shore about 3 miles to Reid State Park. At this point paddle along the beach to the very end of the beach. Here you will find the mouth of Little River. Little River runs 1 1/2 miles North through a classic Salt Marsh, here you may see Herons, Ducks, Deer, and other native wildlife. After exploring Little River follow the shoreline back to your cottage. This trip is approx. 12 miles. To cut the distance of your trip in half you may choose to start or finish your trip from Todd's Point at Reid State Park. You can drive to Todd's Point, it's a short walk to the water. NOTE: If you notice any amount of breaker on the beach you will probably not want to attempt to get into Little River. These are just a few of the many scenic Kayak trips that can be made while staying at Son Rae Coastal Cottages. The others include a trip to the Black Rocks to watch the Seal population, A trip to Boothbay Harbor to browse the many shops, a trip to the Cuckolds Lighthouse, or a trip to Seguin Light House.
